Moving from Gantry to P2: Why Positioning Controls Differ

Moving from Gantry to P2: Why Positioning Controls Differ

A gantry positioning command may be absent from a galvo interface because the machines represent position differently. That absence alone is not a damaged toolbar or a reason to select a different device profile. For a TYVOK P2, confirm the supported software and configuration with TYVOK before applying any LightBurn instructions.

A September LightBurn discussion follows a user looking for “Move to Laser Position” while working with a galvo. The command described in LightBurn's movement reference concerns placing selected artwork at a reported gantry position. A galvo's mirror-directed field should not be treated as a moving gantry head.

Identify what you are trying to move

There are three different actions that can look similar in a tutorial: moving selected shapes in the drawing, moving a physical gantry to an XY location, and framing the artwork within a galvo field. Decide which one you need before searching for a button. A shortcut that centers an object on the page does not physically relocate a blank.

For example, a name can be centered in a drawing while the wooden insert is sitting to one side of the actual field. Changing the drawing center repeatedly may hide the real problem: the fixture has not established a repeatable physical location.

Question at the P2 workstation Check Avoid
Which software is supported? TYVOK guidance for the exact controller Assuming all galvos share a profile
What is being centered? Selected shapes and field reference Treating screen center as a physical measurement
Where is the blank? Secure fixture and documented frame Borrowing a gantry jog sequence
Did the setup change? Compare saved configuration Restoring an unrelated device backup

Keep diagnosis off the material

Take a screenshot of the interface, record the selected device name and describe the action you expected. Do not fire the laser to discover what an unfamiliar control means. Once TYVOK confirms the correct workflow, inspect the frame using the prescribed protective setup and a secured, suitable blank.

The TYVOK P2 is a compact blue-diode galvo; that architecture does not by itself prove compatibility with a particular LightBurn release or controller profile. Its current listed field is 60 × 60 mm, so a drawing inherited from a much larger gantry also needs a deliberate size check.

Keep a parameter snapshot after the working setup is confirmed. On gantry systems, a moving software position marker is another example of information that can be mistaken for a saved reference. Understanding the indicator first is safer than trying to force all interfaces to look alike.

Should I reinstall software to recover the missing icon?

Not as the first response. Check whether the command is applicable to the selected device type and software version. Reinstallation cannot add a machine capability that the command depends on.

Does a galvo eliminate the need for a fixture?

No. The beam can address positions within its field, but a loose blank can still shift or rotate between loads. The fixture supplies the physical reference the screen cannot create.
