LaserPecker Depth Percent Is Not a P2 Depth Measurement

A LaserPecker setting labeled “depth” as a percentage is not a measured recess in millimeters and is not a transferable TYVOK P2 setting. Keep it as a named control from the original machine and software. Ask for guidance specific to the selected P2 head and exact material instead of converting the percentage into a promised physical engraving depth.

The current LP2 Plus material chart presents power and depth percentages. That notation is enough to identify the risk of confusing a software quantity with a measurement; it does not justify guessing the internal conversion behind the control.

Read the unit before comparing recipes

A physical depth would need a length unit and a defined measurement method. A percentage is incomplete without knowing what the software scales. Do not assume that two interfaces use the same meaning because both show a field called depth.

For example, a screenshot showing “depth 20%” cannot support a claim of 0.2 mm, 2 mm or any other measured recess. Nor should it be reinterpreted as a particular speed without documentation. The useful next step is to recover the source machine, software version, head, material and stated result.

Keep unknown controls visibly unknown

Build a short comparison record with a source column and a local column. Enter the original label exactly in the source column. In the local column, leave the corresponding physical result unmeasured until it has actually been assessed. This prevents a rough note from becoming an apparently validated shop recipe later.

When a local P2 trial is appropriate, use a documented compatible blank and TYVOK’s head-specific guidance. Decide whether the goal is visible contrast, a clean line or a measured recess before testing. A contrast sample cannot establish a depth specification simply because it looks dark.

Save the local result without overwriting its origin

Store the accepted P2 settings alongside the exact material identity and a photograph or measurement appropriate to the goal. A parameter snapshot helps distinguish a later settings change from a material change. Keep the original competitor chart as background, not as the approved local process record.

The P2 product configuration includes blue-diode head choices; a shared product family name does not make their output interchangeable. Standard P2 also differs from P2 Ultra and from fiber or CO2 systems. Confirm which machine was used before comparing two results.

Does a larger depth percentage always make a deeper recess?

Do not assume a universal relationship. Consult the source software documentation for the control’s behavior. A percentage alone does not establish the resulting depth on a particular material.

Can I reuse the design while leaving the recipe behind?

Often the artwork can be treated separately, provided its format and destination workflow support that separation. The artwork-import workflow explains why opening a complete project is different from transferring its graphics. Inspect the receiving setup rather than trusting the file name to describe its process settings.
