Test whether a golf-ball display holds the ball securely and stays upright before engraving the course, date or player's name. A decorative circular hole is not automatically a reliable seat. Use the actual ball and intended base on a level surface, with the laser off and the ball removed from the machine during processing.
A LaserPecker keepsake project shows a wooden display for a hole-in-one ball. It supplies a useful project example, not a transferable cutting recipe or a promise that its file will fit every A1 Mini setup. The ball itself is outside this wood-personalization workflow.
Separate the seat from the stand
The seat controls where the sphere rests. The base controls whether the whole display tips. A snug-looking opening in a tall, narrow support can hold the ball yet still overturn when placed near an edge or nudged.
Build a plain physical mockup first. Place the actual ball in the proposed seat, check from the side how much protrudes, and confirm that the display sits flat. Avoid relying on a nominal ball diameter alone: paint, a protective case or a decorative holder can change the contact. Check the intended display location and keep the design away from places where an accidental fall could cause harm.

Fit the real object before making the label
An illustrative 100 mm-wide plaque can leave room for a short course name, but its width does not determine the seat diameter. Draw those dimensions independently. Print the wording at final size and view it with the ball in place before committing to the engraving.
The A1 Mini provides a compact blue-diode workflow with a listed 120 × 130 mm field. Confirm the full blank, support and operating clearance fit your configuration. A precut wooden component can be more practical than trying to cut a thick stand; no particular thickness or competitor setting is assumed here.
Once the shape works, remove the ball and all unrelated parts, then process only the approved wooden component using a verified sample. Assemble after processing and inspect stability again. A useful companion example is finger-joint finishing allowance: changing an edge after a successful mockup can also change the final fit.
Can I engrave the ball while it sits in the display?
No. This process is for the separate wood. A golf ball's cover and internal construction require a different, specifically approved process; a holder does not make it suitable.
Should I glue the ball permanently into the seat?
Decide with the owner whether removal matters, especially for a keepsake. Any retention method must be compatible with the actual materials; do not hide an unstable base by adding adhesive.
