Fold a magnetic bookmark around a page before deciding where its engraving belongs. The flat blank can make both ends look equally plausible, but only the closed sample shows which face is visible and which way the text should read. Use a paper mockup first, then establish that the entire real blank is approved for the intended laser process.
A selected magnetic bookmark listing from xTool illustrates this folded accessory category. Its supplier-specific “laserable” description is not approval of every PU bookmark or a guarantee of TYVOK A1 Mini compatibility. Material suitability and the fold layout are separate decisions.
Mark the reading position on paper
Cut a paper strip matching the open blank and fold it around a book page. Label the visible outside face in the position in which the bookmark will normally be used. Add a small upward arrow beside the proposed text, then open the strip flat without changing those labels.
This simple exercise reveals the orientation transformation. Two designs that look upright beside each other on the open strip can face opposite ways after folding. Do not select a mirror or rotation operation by habit; let the physical mockup show what the closed object needs.
Four positions worth recording

Test the closure and opening motion with the intended book or a comparable page sample. If the design is hidden by the fold or the way the accessory is used, move it before translating the layout into the laser file. A digital center line alone will not show that problem.
Confirm the complete blank before engraving
Ask the supplier to identify the outer layer, backing, adhesive and magnetic construction, and confirm approval for the intended laser process. Keep magnets out of the beam path, but do not treat that precaution as proof that unidentified surrounding layers are suitable. Decline blanks whose construction cannot be established.
The same distinction between visible skin and whole accessory matters for RFID wallets. Here the practical acceptance criteria include a readable exterior and a closure that still works as intended. Neither is established by a supplier photograph of a similar bookmark.
Transfer the closed-view proof to A1 Mini
Use the text-proof card method to check the lettering at its final physical size. Add the closed-view orientation marks to your private setup reference, keeping them out of the actual engraving output unless they are intentionally part of the design.
The A1 Mini listing gives a compact 120 × 130 mm working area. Measure the opened blank and the approved holding arrangement, not only the folded bookmark. A piece small enough when closed may need more space when held for marking. Follow the current focusing and positioning instructions for the selected configuration.
Should the two ends have identical upright text in the file?
Not necessarily. The fold and normal reading position determine orientation. Open a labeled paper mockup and reproduce that physical arrangement in the design.
Can I engrave a finished bookmark just because its listing says PU?
No. PU is not a complete construction or laser-approval statement. Confirm the exact assembled blank and process with its supplier, including the backing, adhesive and closure arrangement, before considering a sample.
