Read bleed, residue, and cleanup damage
If cell A wicks along open grain while documented mask cell B leaves adhesive residue, neither is automatically acceptable. The record shows which failure belongs to which stack.
Run the offcut through full cure
- 1. Choose an offcut from the same board or documented lot and preserve its grain direction.
- 2. Separate laser eligibility from the later paint, sealer, cure, and sanding steps.
- 3. Follow each finish manufacturer's application and cure instructions outside the laser.
- 4. Compare bleed, residue, color, edge damage, and cleanup under the same lighting.

Can I laser through ordinary transfer tape?
Not without documentation for the exact tape and adhesive. Unknown masking stays out of the laser.
Does sealer always stop bleed?
No. Wood species, grain, engraving depth, finish, viscosity, and cure all matter. The offcut reports only the tested stack.
Can I prescribe the winning finish to every sign?
No. Retain it as a lot- and process-specific record, then recheck when stock or products change.
