LightBurn Fill Looks Like Stripes Before the Laser Runs

If a filled shape already shows widely spaced tracks in LightBurn before output, inspect the layer's line interval and the preview display first. Increasing laser power cannot add missing simulated paths. Keep this software observation separate from streaks that appear only on a physical engraving.

A September LightBurn fill-rendering question described a choppy appearance after changing from Line to Fill. Replies pointed toward excessive line spacing. That is a useful diagnostic lead, not a guaranteed explanation for every striped image.

Reproduce the symptom without running the laser

Save a separate working copy and inspect a simple filled rectangle on the affected layer. Confirm that you are looking at that layer's settings, not another similarly colored layer. Open Preview and compare the apparent gaps at more than one zoom level.

LightBurn's Fill Mode documentation describes parallel paths and their spacing. A coarse interval can leave visibly separated paths. Display scaling can also affect how a dense pattern looks on screen, so one zoomed-out screenshot is insufficient evidence.

An illustrative comparison uses two identical rectangles in separate copies of a file. Keep geometry and view scale constant while examining the recorded interval. If the paths themselves are sparse in one copy, investigate the settings responsible. If both previews contain dense paths but only the editor view looks striped at a particular zoom, avoid treating the display artifact as a cutting defect.

Record the interval together with its unit. If a specification is expressed as DPI, use a consistent line-interval and DPI conversion rather than copying the same number between different controls.

Choose a physical test only after the file makes sense

The current TYVOK X1S 2026 page describes large-format creation and LightBurn among its software options. Confirm the exact machine profile and purchased configuration. A larger working area does not select an appropriate fill density for a material.

Once the simulated paths are understood, qualify any changed engraving settings on suitable approved stock under the machine's operating guidance. Screen coverage does not establish the appearance, heat response or finish of the physical material.

Fill troubleshooting questions

Can I keep reducing the interval until the preview becomes solid?

A solid-looking display is not a material setting target. Denser paths can change processing time and deposited energy. Use the preview to understand the file, then determine physical settings through an appropriate material test.

Does a striped preview mean the laser lens is dirty?

The software preview does not inspect the lens. Investigate the simulated paths and display first; hardware maintenance belongs to a separate diagnosis when the physical output or maintenance schedule calls for it.
