Engraving Wooden Golf Tees: Stop Rolling Before the First Name

A wooden golf tee needs restraint against rolling before it needs an engraving setting. Support the shaft without forcing the tapered tip sideways, orient the same face upward, and prove a short name on a spare from the actual pack. A tee that settles differently after each reload cannot produce consistent placement.

Give the taper room to vary

Set five unprocessed tees beside a ruler. Compare the length of the straight shaft, the start of the taper and the width of the head. A hole that locates one tip tightly may leave the next tee tilted. Use support geometry that locates the portion carrying the name; do not rely on overall length alone.

With the machine safely off, load, remove and reload one tee several times. If its intended top face rotates, correct the holder. Keep the pointed end protected during handling and retain clearance for the machine's required cover or enclosure. A fixture must not require bypassing protection.

Start with one restrained tee

Choose identified wood and a finish the supplier approves for laser processing. Unknown painted or plastic tees are a separate material question. Focus on the intended marking surface using the documented P2 method, then inspect the frame with the required protection in place. An illustrative 20 mm name does not need a holder copied at the original project's full size.

For a compact gift workflow, the TYVOK P2 is a blue-diode galvo, not a fiber machine. Its current FAQ lists a 60 × 60 mm working field; verify the selected configuration and fixture clearance. This does not make the entire curved shaft an equally usable engraving surface.

After the first sample cools, compare the beginning and end of the name. Do not increase power to compensate for one end dropping out of focus. Shorten the design or revise the support. The replaceable-part approach used for a wooden guitar cover can reduce the cost of a rejected sample. Unlike a flat cufflink insert, a tee needs support along its curved shaft rather than only a recess around its edge.

Can I reuse a holder for longer tees?

Only after checking the shaft, taper and head against it. Two tee lengths may share one support arrangement, but forcing the tips to the same stop can tilt their writing surfaces.

Can I wrap a long name around the tee shaft?

A single flat-field placement does not prove consistent focus around the shaft. Keep the name within the verified upper strip, shorten it or use initials. Any rotation workflow requires separate hardware and process confirmation.
