First Project: Decide Whether You Need Engraving or Cutting
Choose a laser engraver or laser cutter from the first project's required action. Surface names, photos and coated marks are engraving tasks; separated shapes and slots are cutting tasks. Then verify that the exact material and thickness suit the current A1 Mini configuration.

Many first projects contain both actions: a name is engraved and the tag outline is cut. Listing each feature separately prevents a buyer from treating one attractive surface sample as proof of through-cutting performance.
Separate surface marks from cut profiles
1. Write the finished object and its required material.
2. Circle every feature that only changes the surface.
3. Mark every feature that must separate through the stock.
4. Identify the smallest detail and largest blank.
5. Choose a low-risk first proof that tests the required action.
