Flip a Sheet: Keep Print and Cut Target Identities Straight

Name the targets before turning the board

Call the marks A and B in a paper sketch. Add a clear indication of the front face and the edge about which you intend to flip. Follow A and B through that single movement. Avoid renaming them left and right after turning the stock; those descriptions change with your viewing direction.

Prepare the back artwork with its registration geometry as a complete arrangement. Mirroring only the visible illustration while leaving its references untouched can create a different relationship from the one on the physical board. An asymmetric detail, such as a small arrow in the proof, helps expose a reversed interpretation that a centered circle would conceal.

Use a small piece of known laser-compatible wood for the first two-sided sample. Follow the machine's protective and framing instructions. If the footprint is systematically displaced, pause and inspect the file and target pairings instead of adding an unexplained compensating shift.

Scale the proven arrangement, not the uncertainty

The TYVOK X1S 2026 starts at 800 × 800 mm, with an 800 × 2000 mm expanded configuration. Match the layout to your installed configuration and support the actual sheet. More area makes a registration mistake more expensive; it does not remove the need for a two-sided proof.

Confirm the design in the way the finished object will be viewed. A magnetic bookmark's closed-face orientation illustrates why an attractive flat layout can still face the wrong way after assembly. Also keep reference photographs out of framing and output when they are only visual aids.

Should I swap the target names whenever I flip horizontally?

No. Preserve each physical identity and follow its transformed position. The procedure must pair the correct drawing point with that particular mark; its current left-or-right position is not its identity.

Can I correct a consistent offset by moving all the back artwork?

An unexplained shift may conceal a wrong transformation or reference pairing. First prove the cause on scrap and save a repeatable procedure. If correct pairings still produce an offset, retain the file and measurements for software or machine support.
