Sequential labels are complete only when the source list, previewed artwork, sheet positions, rejects and replacements reconcile to the same unique sequence. Freeze the source, assign a part ID to every position, and never reuse a rejected number without a recorded replacement.

A sequence is more than an auto-increment

Current variable-text documentation explains CSV line substitution and duplicate-line behavior, creating a concrete sequence-reconciliation risk for serial labels. See the current CSV substitution explanation.

Keep rejected serials visible in the ledger. Deleting them makes the final count look clean while hiding whether a number was delivered twice, skipped, or replaced on the wrong sheet position. Reconcile the packed quantity separately from the artwork count and preserve the replacement part's position.

Reconcile the delivered serial list against physical parts, not only the artwork file. Photograph source sequence beside its 'No unexplained gap' rule. Repeat that discipline for artwork preview, where the retained record is rendered text per position.

Link every position to a source row

1. Export and lock the approved serial source.

2. Validate start, end, prefix, suffix and duplicates.

3. Map each record to a physical sheet position.

4. Record rejected parts without deleting their history.

5. Generate replacements from an exception list and recount the delivered set.

Sequence reconciliation pauses production whenever the previewed record and physical position disagree.

Compatible label-stock boundary

X1S Pro production positioning does not certify a variable-data workflow. The selected software, stock and inspection plan must be tested together. The live TYVOK X1S Pro listing is the source for dimensions and included hardware. Sequential labels require coated, painted, anodized or otherwise verified compatible stock.

Numbering questions

Can auto-increment prevent duplicate serials?

It helps only when offsets, arrays and source rows are configured and previewed correctly.

Should a rejected number be skipped?

The delivered set must follow the customer's rule; record the reject and its replacement rather than silently changing sequence.

What stock is assumed?

Only a coated, painted, anodized or otherwise verified compatible label stock—not arbitrary bare metal.

Ship only when source, parts, rejects and replacements reconcile.
