Shadow Box Orders: Count Every Layer Before Packing

Shadow Box Orders: Count Every Layer Before Packing

Count and identify every physical layer of a wooden shadow-box order before closing the package. A finished front frame does not prove the background, spacers, scene pieces and back panel are present. If a customer receives a missing layer, they cannot assemble the intended depth even when the laser job itself ran without error.

The Atomm moth shadow-box project shows how multiple engraved and raised wooden pieces form one result. Its exact parts and xTool settings are project-specific. A layer inventory is a practical fulfillment inference for any multi-part kit, not a claim that its source maker used this checklist.

Count a kit, not loose pieces

Assign each distinct physical piece a simple position code: front, scene one, scene two, spacer set, backing and any hanger. Put the code on a removable paper sleeve or packing card, not on a visible decorative face. Lay one complete set on a table in assembly order. Compare it to a photographed approved kit and check that cutouts face the intended direction. A count of six loose shapes is insufficient if two are duplicates of the same layer.

Packout check Evidence to retain
Every unique layer present Layout photograph before wrapping
Spacer count and thickness Physical stack check
Correct orientation Front-to-back assembly sequence
Customer personalization Order ID matched to visible name

Separate a replacement part from the normal order so it does not silently create an extra and mask a missing piece. Protect fragile raised elements during packing. The shipping material should hold the parts without pressing thin bridges; test a sample package before the first large run.

Use X1S Pro for verified large layouts

The TYVOK X1S Pro page describes a large-format production path, with specifications dependent on the selected configuration. Confirm the stock, actual work area and complete cut file; test known laser-compatible sheet material, ventilate and supervise. The machine does not automatically verify a packout or certify shipping protection.

Earlier in the process, a two-layer alignment-hole sample catches fit errors. For the package itself, the previous flat-kit mailer depth check addresses a different issue: whether the complete set fits the chosen mailer.

Can I weigh the kit instead of counting layers?

Weight may flag a gross omission, but similar wood pieces can be close in mass. Inspect unique layer identities and orientation on the first packed order.

Should spacers be attached before shipping?

Follow the product's approved assembly design. Attached or loose, each spacer must be present, stable and described to the customer; do not change construction only to simplify counting.
