If the desired finish is a flush corner with the exposed finger ends sanded back, consider leaving deliberate extra finger length. Prove the allowance on a small corner assembly first. Keep that length decision separate from finger width, slot clearance and kerf compensation: making a finger longer does not correct a loose joint.
A September cedar-box discussion included concern about dark joints and a suggestion to leave ends proud for sanding. That is a maker's finishing idea, not evidence that a particular wood, thickness or laser setting is appropriate for your TYVOK machine.
Start at the finished outside surface
Draw the plane where the finished wall should end. The extra finger material sits beyond that plane and is intended to be removed. Label it explicitly on a copy of the design so it is not mistaken for an error in the overall box dimensions.
For an illustrative keepsake box, suppose two walls already fit correctly in a dry assembly. A sample with longer fingers should preserve that same fit while leaving visible stock at the outside corner. If assembling the new sample requires additional force, something beyond length changed. Compare the joint widths and toolpath before continuing.
Use the actual approved stock for the corner proof. A different scrap can hide variation in surface finish or how the edge responds to sanding. Include any face finish that must survive the planned operation, while checking material and coating suitability before laser processing.
Inspect a complete corner, not a loose finger

Support the sample so pressure does not round the corner unintentionally. Stop frequently to inspect both adjoining faces. A clean end is not a successful result if one wall now has a hollow or the decorative face has been sanded through.
Think through when sanding will happen in the assembly sequence. Internal details may block support or access once the enclosure is closed. The book-nook assembly access check is useful for deciding which panel can close last while finishing remains possible.
Carry the allowance into the production layout
The TYVOK X1S 2026 product page lists an 800 × 800 mm starting layout and an extended 800 × 2000 mm configuration. Layout capacity can accommodate box panels, subject to the purchased setup and suitable material; it cannot establish the correct sanding allowance. Retain the successful corner sample with the file used to cut it.
If the design has a hinged lid, test movement after the corner finish is established. Checking the hinge opening sweep catches a rear edge that clears when shut but binds during opening.
Finishing questions
Will sanding the finger ends remove every dark joint line?
No. It may remove exposed surface material at the ends, while darkness along the joint or inside the cut can remain. Judge the actual assembled sample before promising a particular appearance.
Should I increase kerf compensation to create the extra length?
No. Kerf compensation changes the toolpath around the shape. Design the intended length allowance explicitly, and preserve the separately qualified joint-fit settings.
